Cabochon cut medium tone amethyst backed with mother of pearl – perfect for closed back bezels!

This is a selection of 5 cushion shaped cabochon cut amethysts backed with mother of pearl. The mother of pearl backing not only gives an almost magical sheen to the stones, but because the backing is opaque, these are ideal for closed back settings where silver may tarnish over time.

These beauties have gorgeous high domes together with a beautiful polish and have been made just for us. The stones you will receive are not the exact stones as those pictured, but will be almost the same.

The stones are created in much the same way as opal doublets, with a fine layer of epoxy cementing the two layers together. Because of the epoxy, it is important not to heat the stone (hot water is fine for when using thermoplastic for setting) and not to soak the stones in acetone / denatured alcohol. It is also advisable not to use a steam cleaner or ultrasonic with these stones.

Although these stones have been custom made to our specifications, our manufacturer of these stones has made similar doublets for many large, high end silver jewellery designers in the past, so you can rest assured of the quality.

We will ship from our studio in Malaysia within 4 working days. Parcels are expected to take around two to three weeks to arrive if you live in major cities in the US or UK, but they can take longer for the rest of the world and remote locations. While we ship everything via DHL Express, we cannot guarantee that shipments will arrive within any time frame, but please do contact us if you haven’t received your parcel after 6 weeks and we’ll happily look into it.
